Job Description
General Job Brief : Under the direction of the Dean of Students and the Director of Residence Life, this position provides overall management and leadership to a residence hall or area. Principal responsibilities include overseeing the supervision, training, and development of the paraprofessional building staff (Resident Assistants), as well as programming efforts for the department, residential education, community development, crisis management, student discipline and other departmental/university-wide responsibilities. This role also requires a comprehensive understanding of and commitment to the unique Christian mission and vision of ACU to Transform Culture with Truth, and the ability to advance that mission and vision through the performance of its duties, including person-to-person interactions, mentorship and discipleship. Duties, Tasks, Responsibilities: Provides leadership, supervision, and development for the Resident Assistant (RA) staff. Develops social and educational programming within an assigned residential area that promotes community building, student development, and student success. Provides overall management and leadership to an assigned residence hall or area, including managing occupancy, furniture inventory, maintenance requests, etc. Responds to emergency and crisis situations in collaboration with Campus Safety. Participates in the Student Development/Residence Life on-call rotation. Regularly attends bi-weekly Chapel services. Knowledge of and ability to maintain confidential information (e.g. FERPA, etc.). Ability to work flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends. Other Duties and Responsibilities Serves on various University committees as needed. Attends programs and events to support residents and maintain a high level of visibility on campus. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge : Must possess knowledge related to college student affairs, student development, and higher education, particularly in the context of residence life programs. Must exhibit a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and agree with and be able to sign the Statement of Faith and Core Commitments of Arizona Christian University. Familiar with and ability to operate a personal computer and various software programs, including Microsoft Office, Populi, Canvas, and eRezLife highly preferred. Knowledge of and ability to maintain confidential information (e.g. FERPA, etc.). Education and Experience : Bachelor's Degree is required. Master's Degree, preferably in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Christian Studies, Counseling or related field preferred. 1-2 years' experience working in an environment related to higher education, college student development, residence life, ministry, or other related field preferred. Ability and Skills : High attention to detail and accuracy; highly organized Ability to effectively communicate with others and to work harmoniously with related personnel Ability to organize and prioritize work Ability to review operations for efficiencies; make suggestions for improvements Highly proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google mail Commitment to the University's faith statement, mission, and purposes; and an active Christian faith Comfort and familiarity with the practice of praying with and for others, including students, faculty, and fellow University staff The ability to meaningfully support and encourage students, faculty, and staff from a biblical worldview perspective, using relevant and applicable references from the Old and New Testaments and orthodox Christian writings Working Conditions : College campus environment Office hours to accomplish administrative tasks Meeting with students as needed Time Required : Office hours during the standard workday On-call duty rotation throughout the year with other residence directors (including breaks in the schedule and holidays) Fair Labor Standards Act: This position is considered to be full-time, exempt for overtime pay provisions as provided by the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and any applicable state laws.
