Job Description

Conducts tests and procedures; sets up and operates equipment; records observations and measurements and collects and compiles data in a research lab; requires a practical understanding of a limited number of standard scientific techniques.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Maintains inventory of reagents and lab supplies
  • Flow cytometry
  • Database management
  • Immunohistochemistry
  • Using an entry level of skill, completes the following activities (please highlight):
    • Molecular Biology:
      • DNA, RNA, Protein isolation, purification and expression, Western blotting
      • PCR, RT-PCR
      • Plasmid preparation
      • Cloning, mapping and sequencing of DNA
    • Cellular Biology:
      • Cell culture, cell isolation
      • Functional studies
      • Transfection
    • Histology:
      • Tissue fixation/processing: embedding, preparation of blocks and sectioning, staining
      • Immunohistochemistry
      • Microscopy
    • Immunology:
      • Flow cytometry
      • ELISA
      • Cytokine assay
    • Animal:
      • Dissections
      • Database management of colony
    • Other (please specify):
      • Database management
  • Sets-up, operates and maintains standard lab equipment.

  • Follows pre-defined protocols, policies, procedure, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices and conducts standard and repetitive experiments and completes basic trouble-shooting techniques.

  • Completes standard and routine clerical duties such as copying, filing, data entry, word processing, etc.

Miscellaneous

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • HS diploma or equivalent and some basic science courses is required.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • Manual dexterity.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions as required by research protocols;
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including spreadsheets and basic computations;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Attention to detail and accurate record keeping;
  • Demonstrated laboratory experience;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major.
  • Preferred candidates will have previous experience in a molecular and/or cell biology research lab.

  • Capable of learning new techniques
  • Highly organized and has the ability to multi-task
  • Knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including spreadsheets and basic computations
