Location:
450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215
Category:
Research Laboratory
Employment Type:
Full time
Work Location:

Overview
The Structural Biology Core of the Chemical Biology Program at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, directed by Sirano Dhe-Paganon, serves as a key resource aiding investigators to answer mechanistic questions by dissecting the molecular mechanisms of proteins implicated in cancer. In collaboration with multi-disciplinary research teams, we use biochemical, biophysical and structural biology approaches to characterize important oncogenes and facilitate the development of novel therapeutic approaches.
The Structural Biology Core seeks a highly motivated individual to join the team as research technician who will focus on protein biochemistry and structural biology. Activities include designing & executing experiments on recombinantly-purified oncogenes such as KRAS, C-MYC, and β-Catenin and analyzing & interpreting results. Primary responsibilities include performing recombinant protein expression and purification and conducting in vitro biophysical and biochemical assays and screens that test and validate screening hits and chemical probes. Responsibilities may also include crystallizing & freezing proteins and determining high-resolution structures using x-ray diffraction methods. The individual will be an important member of our core team, and will work closely with other scientists in the lab, collaborate extensively with colleagues at Dana Farber and attend departmental seminars. Members of our team are included as authors on relevant publications, and often pursue graduate school, medical school, or biotech industry.
Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.
Responsibilities
Execute recombinant protein purifications and/or biochemical, biophysical, and crystallographic assays and screens. Develop research methods, maintain lab notebooks, and report & publish research data and results.
Qualifications
  • BA/MS degree required: biochemistry, biology, chemical biology, or equivalent
  • Exceptional communication skills, and ability to effectively present data within the laboratory and to collaborators
  • At least two years of availability strongly preferred.
  • Adept at working within cross-functional scientific teams to deliver project data within timelines
At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong. As relentless as we are in our mission to reduce the burden of cancer for all, we are equally committed to diversifying our faculty and staff. Cancer knows no boundaries and when it comes to hiring the most dedicated and diverse professionals, neither do we. If working in this kind of organization inspires you, we encourage you to apply.
