The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Research Technician to join our Histology technology center and provide high-quality research histology services to scientific laboratories as needed.
Responsibilities Include:
- Operating and maintaining histology prep and ancillary equipment
- Providing general laboratory assistance to other Histology team members
- Preparing samples including receipt, fixation, processing, embedding, slide preparation, microtomy and staining
- Collecting and disposing properly of hazardous waste
- Maintaining equipment fluid levels
- Triaging samples received into the facility
- Ordering and maintaining accurate levels of supplies
- Training/Assisting researchers on common use equipment
- Providing proficient services with advanced and emerging molecular histology technologies to locate protein and RNA molecules in situ on sections or whole mount samples
- Executing, troubleshooting, and updating existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Other duties as assigned
Successful candidates will have the ability to pay close attention to detail, be self-motivated, have a team-oriented approach for customer service, be proficient at problem solving, work independently and creatively, and have outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
In addition, a successful candidate will be familiar with basic biology, anatomy and/or chemistry, and knowledge of general laboratory procedure.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience in molecular histology techniques such as immunostaining/ immunofluorescence preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of basic science research and science project management
- A bachelor’s degree in life science / relevant field or an active ASCP certification in histotechnology (HT/HTL)
