Posting Summary


Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist II for the Department of Medicine within the New Jersey Medical School. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Principal Research Associate, the Research Teaching Specialist II will assist in acquisition and quality control of outcomes data from multiple sources, management of complex project databases, descriptive and statistical analysis of data, coordinating with multiple outside collaborators and groups, including collaborating drug treatment centers, for data collection, obtaining consent from and interviewing study subjects, revising and editing survey instruments, writing and editing manuscripts and various other reports and abstracts, maintaining administrative records, and related research and administrative tasks.


Among the key duties of this position are the following:


  • Assists with training, supervising, and guiding post-doctoral fellows, medical, graduate and undergraduate students and research assistants in data management techniques and other research procedures as directed, and assists in developing priorities.
  • Collaborates with the Principal Investigator, the Principal Research Associate, the Study Coordinator, and other research staff in preparation of materials for peer-reviewed publications and reports, including designing and writing presentations and in writing and editing manuscripts.
  • Conducts literature reviews, in conjunction with a research librarian when appropriate, including critical assessment of relevant papers, and oversees integration of new references into the project reference database.
  • Maintains existing databases and utilizes them in achieving study objectives.
  • Collects and/or supervises collection of data from collaborators including participating drug treatment centers, involving on-site activities at those centers and coordination with staff at those centers, and with expanding our set of collaborators.
  • Enters data into relevant databases.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience


  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in epidemiology, biostatistics, quantitative methods, public health, biomedical science, premedical studies, or a related field plus two (2) years of related research experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with a major or concentration in one of the above fields plus three (3) years of related research experience.


Certifications/Licenses
  • Must have a current New Jersey driver’s license.
  • If to be involved in transporting frozen specimens, Rutgers biosafety training and certification related to transport will be required in advance.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Prior to employment, documented proof of a of a current influenza vaccination and documented maintenance of influenza vaccination status in the future.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of Microsoft Office, including at a minimum Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent quantitative skills.
  • Documented proof of complete COVID -19 vaccination (three doses of Pfizer or Moderna mRNA, including at least one booster, or equivalent combinations per CDC / FDA guidelines) prior to employment, and then maintenance of compliance with future vaccination standards set forth by all of Rutgers University, the State of New Jersey, and other governing health authorities.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Having own auto with current insurance.
  • Prior research experience, especially in epidemiology, public health, or quantitative social science.
  • Flexibility of hours.
