Job Description

Protagolabs Inc. is seeking full-time research scientists with passion for applying advanced machine learning research to real life.

ProtagoLabs is a research and data analysis company, primarily involved in providing data analyzing services by using AI (artificial intelligence) and statistical models to developers, organizations and companies.


Position Overview

We are seeking candidates with training in computer science, machine learning, operations research, or mathematics. At Protagolabs, research scientists lead the design and development of NLP models – including sentiment analysis, topic modeling, and deep learning – to optimize the users’ experience with our chatbots. Research scientists also have the opportunity to, with support from the company, conduct research in machine learning, publish research findings, and attend conferences.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as key member for developing advanced analytic solutions for products.
  • Mentor junior team members on implementing and fine-tuning machine learning models.
  • Lead research projects targeting at popular challenges and high-profile conferences
  • Cutting-edge NLP models from research in practical and scalable algorithms.


Basic Qualifications

  • End-to-end experience assembling, manipulating, and analyzing data (including data extraction, cleaning, visualization, presentation, etc.)
  • Ability to develop prototypes in simulating research components in the production system.
  • Excellent theoretical training and empirical skills, including experiment design, model development and fine-tuning
  • Drive to see a project through from research concept to working simulation prototype
  • Detailed understanding of Supervised Learning, Unsupervised Learning (Reinforcement Learning, Few-shot Learning and Meta-Learning would be a Plus)
  • Superior working attitude: self-motivated, collaborative, attention to details, and excellent time management.
  • PhD in STEM field (Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, Machine Learning, Operations Research, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biostatistics etc.) or current PhD students with 3+ years academic research experience in one of those fields
  • Fluency in Python programming and hands-on project experience with at least two of the following deep learning frameworks: Tensorflow, Keras, PyTorch
  • Detailed understanding of the machine learning models (logistic regression, SVM, tree-based models, etc.) and deep learning methods (CNN, Transformer, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with relational databases and SQL.
  • Experience working with Amazon Web Services.
  • Superior communication and data presentation skills to internal team members.
  • Creative and self-motivated
  • Present analytic results using literate programming tools such as R Markdown or Jupyter Notebook.
  • Hands-on experience in training deep learning algorithms.
  • Research experience in Natural Language Processing or related fields.
