Job Description

Research Librarian

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP has an immediate need to engage a Research Librarian via our alternative-track program, DWTSurge. This position will be part of a forward-thinking Library & Research Services (L&RS) team responsible for gathering, synthesizing and delivering legal, business and technical information to attorneys and staff; providing training and assistance in the use of a variety of research, current awareness, competitive intelligence and knowledge management tools; and collaborating with teammates, practice groups and staff to provide innovative solutions that support the complex, evolving research needs of DWT clients.

This contract position will be part-time, with an anticipated average of 20 hours of work per week. While the engagement is for an initial 3-month contract term, there is a possibility of renewal for additional terms for successful candidates. We are looking for individuals interested in part-time, flexible, and remote work, and who seek to establish a long-term arrangement working with DWT.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain expertise in the use of a wide variety of legal, business and practice-related resources
  • Provide outreach, training, and on-demand assistance to attorneys and staff in cost effective and efficient use of research resources
  • Collaborate with a nationwide team of librarians to provide comprehensive and sophisticated research, current awareness, competitive intelligence and knowledge management services for attorneys and staff in all DWT offices
  • Contribute to the on-going development of L&RS policies and procedures
  • Assist with various administrative duties and projects as necessary

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An MLS or JD
  • Demonstrated proficiency with major legal and business research platforms, public records resources, competitive intelligence tools, and state and federal legal information sources
  • Residency in one of the following states: AK, AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA, IL, KS, MD, MN, MT, NY, OK, OR, PA, TN, TX, VA, WA, and WDC.
  • Expert customer service skills
  • Flexibility to potentially increase hours, as needed
  • Minimum 1 year of legal reference and research experience, preferably in a law or corporate library
  • Ability to work effectively with commercial vendors
  • Familiarity with internal and attorney-facing knowledge management practices and tools
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Exceptional collaborative skills, including the ability to work closely with teammates located in multiple offices and different time zones
  • Understanding of library usage metrics for guiding collection planning and resource allocation
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with attorneys and staff in a time-sensitive manner and a high degree of sensitivity to confidential matters

Please note that this is a temporary contract position managed by DWT’s flexible contract staffing program, DWTSurge. Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience and skill level (see below). This is a non-benefitted part-time role. We are interested in candidates who are electing to pursue a more flexible way of providing continuous, high-value legal services to the firm and our clients. If you are interested in a more traditional law firm position, please check the DWT careers page for lateral and staff opportunities.

SALARY RANGE:

The hourly range for this position in CA, WA, and New York is $45 to $80 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.

To apply, send your resume and cover letter to DWTSurge Recruiter, Nika Bennett, at [email protected]. The DWTSurge Recruiting team will be in touch as we review your application materials.

We are currently not accepting third party submissions for this opportunity.
