Job Description

Research Associate I

      Position Description:

In the role of Research Associate I you will be working in Biochemistry Department in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

      Dr. Gustavo Leone’s Lab at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee is looking for an energized scientist to conduct research in cancer and developmental biology. Currently, projects utilize cell-based systems and mouse models to study Rb/E2F & PTEN signaling in the context of cell cycle control, during both typical cell division and endoreduplication, embryonic developmental and cancer initiation and progression (endometrial, liver, pancreatic, and breast cancers), as well as the genetics and biology of PTEN within the tumor microenvironment.

      Primary Functions

      • Maintain supplies, may negotiate with vendors, track purchase orders.
      • Literature searches as needed.
      • Maintain equipment, perform/supervise repairs and update computer hardware and software.
      • Manage and operate lab equipment.
      • Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, evaluate lab procedures.
      • Update/improve any techniques in lab as needed.
      • Design and perform lab procedures and experiments with minimal supervision.
      • Train new employees in lab procedures.

      Required knowledge:

      • Data collection and utilization
      • Biology and/or chemistry, mathematics, statistics
      • Problem solving, critical thinking,

      Preferred Schedule:
      8:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday with occasional weekends


      Position Requirements:

      Specifications

      Minimum Required Education: Master’s degree

      Minimum Required Experience: No experience required

      Preferred Education: none

      Preferred Experience: Has experience working with mice. Handling mice for breeding, weaning, and tagging. Mouse embryonic work would be a plus but not required.
