Job Summary: The Research Assistant performs research work in support of a major research project. May order equipment and supplies, set up equipment, perform experiments, monitor results, collect data and/or prepare support material. May supervise students or other support workers assigned to the research project.
Additional Department Summary: The Research Assistant will be part of the Cognition Emotion and Self-Regulation lab in the Center for Youth Development and Intervention and the Psychology Department at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. This position will assist with a 5-year NIMH-funded study investigating a novel computerized intervention for children with callous-unemotional traits. The lab and study are directed by Dr. Bradley White. Responsibilities of the position include participant recruitment, participant testing, data management, and training/supervision of undergraduate researchers. This position is ideal for a candidate who has afternoon/evening and weekend availability to work in a clinical research setting and is looking for significant in-person hands-on research experience with children and families before applying to graduate school and/or for a candidate who is looking for a multi-year research position.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field based on the area of research and some experience. Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented research experience will be considered. To be considered student experience, it must be detailed in the employment section on the application.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Experience administering standardized clinical assessments for research. Experience working with children at risk for disruptive behavior problems.
Skills and Knowledge: Interest in research on callous-unemotional traits in children. Experience with people with disabilities. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel. Ability to work at least 10 hours/week with flexible schedule for participant assessments, including weekday afternoons and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Psychology or related field (e.g., Human Development).
