Job Description

What You Will Do:

  • Keep detailed laboratory/experimental logs and notebooks, ensuring accuracy and organization.
  • Maintain meticulous logs of samples, tracking their progress through the synthesis and characterization pipeline. Share results effectively through oral and written communication.
  • Collaborate with your supervisor to analyze data and troubleshoot a diverse range of technical problems, working towards effective resolutions.
  • Assist staff with organizing and documenting procedures for multi-step fabrication processes.
  • Monitor and replenish essential supplies required for the research project.
  • Operate routine instrumentation and provide support to lab staff, students, and users in instrument operation.

Additional Responsibilities as needed:

  • Contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal functionality.
  • Work under your supervisor's guidance to complete projects using established methodologies, while also contributing to the development of new techniques.

What is Required:

  • Exceptional organizational skills and self-motivation to excel in a dynamic research environment.
  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in materials science and engineering, chemistry, physics, nanoengineering, or related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Keen attention to detail to ensure accuracy and precision in research activities.
  • Passion for enabling groundbreaking scientific research.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to convey ideas and findings clearly.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team, fostering an inclusive and supportive atmosphere.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in cleanrooms, showcasing your familiarity with the unique requirements of controlled environments.
  • Proficiency in using common laboratory tools and equipment, highlighting your practical laboratory expertise.

  • Salary will be determined based on range by collective bargaining agreement.

  • This is a full-time, one-year, term appointment with the possibility of extension based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
  • The hourly range for this position is $23.79 - $36.85. Salary for this position is based on a step schedule and the final candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience (if applicable, and union contract agreement).
  • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
  • Work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
