Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
USCB Library is seeking a service-oriented and collegial Research and Instruction Librarian, as a member of the Research and Instruction Team at USCB Library, provides information literacy instruction and research assistance primarily to USCB Library students and faculty on the USCB Beaufort Campus. Research consultations are provided in person, by phone, and online through e-mail, text, and chat services. This position serves as the liaison for the visual arts and design, nursing, literature, marine sciences, history, first-year foundation courses including English 101 and UNIV 101 and needs of the Beaufort campus faculty, students, staff, and community when needed. The Research and Instruction Librarian oversees access services in Beaufort and supervises the two, part-time library staff. This position participates in collection development and collection maintenance for areas of assigned responsibility, and the Beaufort campus collection. The incumbent works a flexible schedule of 37.5 hours per week, including nights and weekends, and is expected to be available at either campus library location (Beaufort or Bluffton) as requested.

Essential Duties:
  • Collaborate with the USCB Library Research and Instruction Team to create student learning outcomes, instruction, digital resources, and assessments that correlate with the USCB Library Strategic Plan, Academic Master Plan, and the Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education.
  • Market and conduct outreach activities of library instruction and services to USCB and local community.
  • Plan, develop, and teach information literacy instruction sessions for Nursing, Literature, Visual Arts and Design, English composition classes, first-year foundational courses, and other courses on the Beaufort and Bluffton campuses as needed in collaboration with the Research and Instruction team.
  • Ensure collection of essential statistics and reporting for internal and external surveys and reports through LibAnswers, etc.
  • Manage the USCB Beaufort Library institutional repository, Scholar Commons
  • Manage access services in Beaufort.
  • Supervise library staff, students, and access services in Beaufort.
  • Ensures coverage for the information desk and circulation desk at USCB Beaufort Library, including staffing the desk when needed. Assist with staffing at the Bluffton Library when needed.
  • Provide reference/research services in-person and by e-mail, telephone, text, and chat to students, faculty, staff, and public patrons.
  • Serve as the liaison for assigned departments.

Required Education and Experience
  • Recent experience in an academic library.
  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Prior experience with collection analysis.
  • Experience with the Rialto platform.
  • Prior experience in collections, technical and/or acquisitions services.
  • Prior experience in academic libraries.
  • Experience working with the Alma library platform.
  • Previous experience working in a public university system.
