We are currently looking to add a Research and Development Technician to our team in Kalamazoo, MI. In this role you will be responsible for: Conducting supervised experiments to support anti-infective development using microbiology and molecular biology techniques as well as other applicable methodologies and reports results. Generally required to apply education and work experience to conduct focused research thoughtfully, collaboratively and efficiently with high integrity.
What can I expect in this role?
In this position, you will work 9am-5pm Monday-Friday.
Some Key Duties In This Role Include
  • Performs basic microbiology techniques including microbial culture, enumeration, isolation, and identification using traditional and rapid methods.
  • Conducts specialized projects (MIC testing, resistance development, time-kill assays, test method evaluation, etc.) with supervision.
  • Writes or reviews new department SOPs/update existing department SOPs as necessary.
  • Performs basic molecular biology techniques including PCR, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid quantitation, cloning, nucleic acid isolation.
  • Documents research accurately according to policies and procedures.
  • Conducts antimicrobial/antifungal susceptibility testing in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Follows applicable SOPs/guidelines during conduct of research.
Other Duties
  • Observe all company policies, rules, and safety practices.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Perform maintenance per General Maintenance Schedule when applicable.
  • May serve as support staff on other projects during periods of high demand.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by senior staff.

Education/Experience
Here is what we are looking for:
  • Knowledgeable on aseptic technique.
  • At least 1 year hands-on experience working with bacteria and/or fungi.
  • Knowledgeable with formulations and basic chemistry techniques.
  • Four (4) year degree in relevant field (e.g., biology, microbiology, virology, cell biology molecular biology, food science)
  • Familiar with basic molecular biology techniques (cloning, PCR, primer design, etc.).
