Job Description

Agathos Biologics is a biotechnology company pursuing transformational science in biomanufacturing, biologic payload delivery, and cell and gene therapy.The Scientist will conduct high quality scientific research and development to support the company’s goals and achieve their career objectives.


Responsibilities

  • Design, perform and interpret experiments in biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology
  • Perform analytical techniques including dPCR/qPCR, chromatography, and immunoassays
  • Develop and implement new analytical techniques
  • Conduct molecular and cell biology experiments involving cloning, fluorescent microscopy techniques, flow cytometry, and phenotype analysis using a wide range of molecular and cell biology methods
  • Lead and assist in writing grants and scientific publications
  • Developand execute scientific techniques and cell culture protocols in mammalian cells (cell lines, primary cells, stem cells and transfected cells), bacteria, fungal and insect cells.
  • Diligently and accurately record and document experiments, procedures, and protocols
  • Assist with the training of lab personnel
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, prepare clear and concise summaries of data, and present to the project team and senior colleagues
  • Produce biological materials including proteins and viral vectors, using mammalian, insect, and bacterial cells and purify with chromatographic and filtration methods
  • Work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Maintain scientific instrumentation including analytic instruments (PCR, flow cytometry, microscopes, chromatography systems), incubators, freezers, centrifuges, and associated equipment
  • Regularly review the scientific literature and assess the impact of data, results and trends on the company’s goals and objectives

Skills and Experience

  • Bacterial and mammalian cell culture
  • Gene design, synthesis, and cloning techniques
  • Nucleic acid and protein purification
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite
  • Experience in cell and molecular biology is required (examples include cell culture, cloning, transfection/infection, western blotting, multi-color flow cytometry, cell viability, cell proliferation and cytotoxicity assays, PCR, qPCR/dPCR, immunofluorescence, chromatography, and ELISA)
  • Ability to manage data in digital notebooks, computer systems, and paper laboratory notebooks

Education and Work Experience

  • Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or equivalent experience required
  • 3-5 years of experience in biochemical research or related area
