Job Description

Research and Development Manager

Location: Nashville, TN


Summary:

Responsible for leading research and development initiatives and manufacturing operations by managing multiple engineering projects. Independently design, implement, and test engineering strategies and prototypes for process, equipment, and product development activities.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead new product development and reformulation projects.
  • Facilitate the creation of communication plans, ensuring that appropriate information about new products in development are exchanged among key stakeholders.
  • Conduct R&D work for product complaints, investigations and other assessments as required.
  • Critically evaluate processing methodologies to improve yield, decrease scrap, increase quality, and/or decrease costs to maximize operational efficiency and throughput.
  • Assist with the development of a 2-3 year R& D strategy to improve capabilities and profit margin.
  • Create validation protocols for new products/processes and process donors per the protocol.


Equipment Materials Management:

  • Source, install, and develop maintenance programs for manufacturing equipment.
  • Design and procure manufacturing and surgical instrumentation, fixtures, tools, and equipment as needed to support R&D and manufacturing initiatives.
  • Develop engineering drawings, three dimensional models, and CNC programming for producing simple to complex parts.
  • Manage large and often multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring projects are completed within budget and on schedule.
  • Establish appropriate metrics for measuring key project criteria.


Qualifications:

  • Medical device experience preferred.
  • Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in related discipline required.
