Qualifications - External
- BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support required prior to independent patient care and
- 1 year of experience in Med/Surg or Critical Care (preferred)
- Graduate of AMA approved Respiratory Care Program (required)
- NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program (required within 90 days) and
- RCP – Respiratory Care Practitioner (required)
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred) and
- RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist (requied) and
- NRPA – Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (required within 90 days)
Position Responsibilities Texas Health Resources Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) are responsible for obtaining/verifying physician order for therapy and validate for appropriateness, reviewing available medical records and obtaining pertinent medical history from patient or family, evaluating each patient using age and diagnosing appropriate assessment tests and measurement.
In addition to the required qualifications, a successful Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) will
- Administer medication in a safe/correct manner, adhering to medication administration guidelines.
- Use therapeutic treatment techniques appropriate to patient age and desire for treatment.
- Communicates with physicians and other healthcare personnel as appropriate regarding patient care issues.
- Maintain bedside and ventilator alarms in audible position.
- Documents assessments of education needs, education provided, and patient understanding of education provided in accordance with departmental, JCAHO, Medicare, and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
- Determine patient response to treatment and evaluate progress (reassessment).
- Documents aspects of each treatment session in accordance with departmental, JCAHO, Medicare, and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
- Educate patient and family through instruction, demonstration, or appropriate handouts in treatment plan, safety issues, and home programs/self-management.
