Duties Summary

Oversees all patient care units and hospital-wide services on an assigned shift; organizes and manages a specialty clinic in support of a medical program; and/or services as a program specialist in a particular clinical service or subject matter area of nursing. Such responsibility includes providing consultative and educational services to nurse, program administrators and others for the development and improvement of nursing programs, policies, procedures and practices.

Positions at this level may be program specialist in a particular clinical service or subject matter area of nursing. As such they may plan, organize and coordinate community and/or institution educational and consultative services relative to the specialized nursing techniques, methods and treatment services characteristic of a particular medical program. This responsibility involves assisting nurses and program administrator in the development and improvement of nursing programs, policies and procedures; planning and conducting education programs within a specific clinical service area; and supervising subordinate nursing and/or clerical personnel; and performs other related duties as assigned.

These positions are located at the Hawaii State Hospital (HSH) in the Nursing Services Section's Quality Improvement Office. The primary purpose of these positions is to develop, plan, implement, collect data and evaluate performance improvement activities in the Nursing Services Section, working collaboratively with each unit's Nurse Manager which requires the incumbent to work on various shifts and in various programs, as needed, to meet the HSH goal of providing quality care to patients. This position also participates in the aggregation and/or integration of evidenced based data required for adherence with Joint Commission standards.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

License: Applicants must possess a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Hawaii.

Experience: Two and one-half (2-1/2) years of professional nursing work experience as a registered nurse. At least one (1) year of the required experience must have been comparable the next lower level in the State service.

Positions at the IV level supervises and participates in providing professional nursing care and treatment services; plans and implements in-service training programs for nurses and/or nursing assistants; and develops and implements nursing care plans for and provides related nursing services for the full range of public health nursing cases within a specific geographic area.
