Registered Nurse (Experienced RN or New Grad RN) – Duke University Hospital – General Surgery/Trauma Stepdown Unit (8300)

Work Hours & Shifts:

• 3 12’s Rotating Shifts (50% Days; 50% Nights)
• **The shift options are contingent upon completing a day shift orientation and a successful 90-day probationary period.
• 3 12’s Day shift (7am-7pm) OR 3 12's Night Shift (7pm-7am)

Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Required:

• Experienced Nurses: Previous work experience (1+ years) as a clinical nurse is required.
• Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program is required.

All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date

Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:

• BLS (or higher) certification required.
• Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolina required.
• Experienced Nurses: Professional specialty certification (preferred).

Unit Profile:

The General Surgery & Trauma Stepdown Unit (8300) at Duke strives to provide exceptional care to acutely ill patients. We are a 31 bed stepdown unit with a patient population consisting primarily of abdominal and vascular surgeries, abdominal oncology as well as a variety of trauma patients. Our unit offers an opportunity to cultivate critical thinking in a fast-paced environment that promotes team building and fosters learning.
