Job Description

To act as patient advocate, providing continuity of care designed to meet individual patient needs through collaboration with other members of the healthcare team and supporting the mission, philosophy, objectives and goals of the facility. The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing the needs of individual patients including but not limited to adult, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current BLS, ACLS and PALS (PALS certification must be completed within 3 months of hire date)
  • Degree from an accredited nursing program
  • 1 year experience as a Registered Nurse in a PAT or in a Pre-Op setting preferred
  • Current Texas RN License

Essential Functions

  • Reviews and carries out physician orders in an appropriate professional manner
  • Strong empathy when dealing with patients and family undergoing surgical interventions
  • Attends all mandatory in services and participates in staff meetings
  • Willingness to assist with other duties when asked
  • Maintains BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications
  • Demonstrate flexibility in performance of patient care tasks to achieve timely response
  • Communicate effectively, conscientiously and frequently with all team members to share information in a result oriented manner. Assist physicians, office staff, scheduling and ancillary departments as needed
  • Ability to multi-task with telephone communication and computer charting
  • Perform outbound calls. Respond to telephone inquiries regarding expressed needs of the patient. Thoroughly document calls and encounters utilizing manual and/or on-line information systems
  • Ensure pre-operative care requirements of patients are accomplished through use of the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Demonstrate high quality customer service to our patients, their families, physicians, and each other. Treats all patients equally adopting the centers Patient Rights policy
  • Performs completed patient care assessments. Obtain medical health history of the pre-operative patient. Complete all required documentation, fax documentation to physicians, perform EKG’s, obtains lab specimens, enter lab and radiology requisitions, provide pre and post-operative instructions, identifies abnormal lab values/imaging and reports to physicians
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
