As a Medical ICU RN, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team that is committed to best practice and continually looking to evidence based research to treat critical illness and prevent complications within our patient population. The MICU is a 21-bed medical/cardiac intensive care unit where nurses are active in quality initiatives and research projects. Our patients are complicated and often have multi-system organ impairment, which requires astute assessment and clinical reasoning skills.
We work as a team: environmental services, LNAs, RNs, unit clerks, RT, PT/OT, interns, residents, fellows, attendings, as we all strive for excellence in patient care. MICU nurses love to learn and love to teach. This is an active learning environment that requires accountability and responsibility for outcomes. Many of our nurses are Certified Critical Care Nurses (CCRNs) or actively working to become a CCRN. Our nurses also have the opportunity to advance through the Clinical Advancement and Recognition Program (CARP).

Provides professional nursing care to patients in varying state of health and illness by assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing plan of care. The Staff Nurse II functions as an essential member of nursing and multidisciplinary teams, providing direct patient care, instruction, and preparation for continuing care after discharge. May take charge as operational need allows.

Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the State of Vermont is required. The University of Vermont Medical Center is moving toward an all Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) workforce. All external candidates hired into, or current employees promoted to, a RN position will be required to obtain their BSN as outlined in the terms of their offer letter.
