A Registered Nurse (RN) in the Endoscopy Department at Weston Hospital provides direct care to pre- and post-procedure patients in a fast-paced environment, following established standards, department guidelines and hospital policies and procedures. The RN will use their strong assessment and critical thinking skills to collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team in order to provide the best outcomes for each patient. This role plays an integral part in ensuring patient advocacy, safety and education. This per diem position requires a minimum of one shift per week, primarily for the hours of 8am - 6:30pm. Endoscopy RN experience is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates, updates and revises plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.
  • Assesses and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study.
  • Provides teaching and educational material as appropriate.
  • Validates and documents patient and family understanding of teaching.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing protocol.
  • Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. Implements and monitors patient care plans.
  • Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders.
  • Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
  • Serves as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Assesses educational needs of the patient and significant others considering cultural issues and other special concerns.
  • Monitors and documents patient's condition and effectiveness and timeliness of care and/or interventions.

Education:

  • Critical Care Course for the acute care setting.
  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. BSN preferred.
  • Periop 101 or validated OJT for the Operating room setting.

Certifications:

  • Proof of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) Certification must be presented upon hire.
  • Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) must be presented upon hire.
  • Current state licensure as Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) preferred for the acute care setting.
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) preferred for the operating room setting.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum one year current acute care RN experience and/or Emergency Department (ED) experience required for ED settings.
  • Minimum one year current acute care RN experience and/or rehab experience required for rehab care settings.
  • Minimum one year current acute care RN experience and/or skilled nursing facility (SNF) experience required for SNF care settings.
  • Will consider licensed military RN experience.
  • Minimum one year current acute care RN experience in a hospital setting required for acute care settings.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
