The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking to fill the Regional Wildlife Habitat Manager position at our Magic Valley Regional office in Jerome.

Responsibilities


  • Assigns work and evaluates performance
  • Prepares habitat management plans for state wildlife management areas and private land programs
  • Assigns responsibility for and participates in the review of environmental documents
  • Plans, organizes and evaluates a regional habitat program and oversees the regional Farm Bill and Access Yes! programs
  • Develops and monitors program budgets
  • Develops priorities for managing department owned lands
  • Develops regional land acquisition priorities
  • Supervises and mentors staff
  • Provides recommendations to federal, state, and NGO partners on the development of habitat projects within the region


Minimum Qualifications: (These qualifications are required.)


  • Good knowledge of plant ecology and physiology and the interaction between plant and animal species (Typically gained by successful completion of a Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Management or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and at least two years of profession work experience, OR successful completion of a Master of Science degree in Wildlife Management or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.)
  • Some knowledge of supervisory practices (Typically gained by at least six months of experience supervising employees (seasonal, temporaries, technicians, support, volunteers, work groups, teams) with direct responsibility for assigning and reviewing their work, input into performance evaluations and handling conflict and/or performance problems and hiring (may have only input into final selection). This experience could include serving as a project leader or lead worker OR completion of a class or seminar (more than one day), specifically covering supervisory practices.)
  • Considerable knowledge of: wildlife management practices to include ecology, habitat requirements, and population dynamics of wildlife; agricultural and grazing practices; range and timber management (Typically gained by successful completion of a Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Management or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and at least five years of full-time professional experience such as habitat and resource management or wildlife population management, OR successful completion of a Master of Science degree in Wildlife Management or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and at least three years of full-time professional experience.)
  • Experience: evaluating effects of habitat development on wildlife; developing and maintaining wildlife habitat; habitat acquisition methods; working with environmental laws relating to wildlife habitat management; negotiating and writing cooperative habitat development agreements; working with federal and state land management agencies and non-governmental organizations on wildlife habitat issues (Typically gained by successful completion of a Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Management or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and at least four years of professional experience working directly with sportsmen, private landowners, and state and federal agencies to implement wildlife management actions, OR successful completion of a Master of Science degree in Wildlife or Natural Resource Management from an accredited college or university and at least two years of professional experience working directly with sportsmen, private landowners, and state and federal agencies to implement wildlife management actions.)


Desirable Qualifications: ( This qualification is not required, however if you have relevant education and/or experience in the area listed below, please be sure to included it within your application material that you submit. Candidates with this education and/or experience may be given additional consideration during the interview process.)
  • Planning and permitting experience for facilities and habitat rehabilitation projects (Typically gained by at least one year of planning and permitting experience for facilities and habitat rehabilitation projects.)
