Job Description
Salary Range: $44.71/hour - $52.55/hour

Contributes to the provision of high quality patient care by supporting infection prevention and control practices and compliance with requirements of regulatory agencies. Participates in the identification, prevention, and control of infections by performance of all required surveillance activities. These activities are accomplished through computer expertise in data collection and analysis. Develops verbal and written reports, and educational programs for personnel as needed. Utilizing appropriate surveillance methods consistent with sound infection control practices provides service to internal and external customers by collecting, analyzing, reporting data and participating in research studies and investigations. Visits all departments in the region to assess infection control practices and provide consultation and education as needed. Assists in assuring compliance with and preparation for accreditation, licensure surveys and Regulatory Standards review.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Identifies the need to refer issues to other appropriate personnel for further consultation and/or follow-up in a timely manner.
  • This position, knows and complies with all Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice in every interaction with patients, colleagues, providers, and leadership. Ensures patient safety in the preparation and provisioning of care related to but not limited to medications, procedures, infection prevention, fall prevention, including consistent use of two patient identifiers and procedural time outs. Reports safety hazards, accidents and incidents, and unsafe working conditions promptly.
  • Assists in meeting the identified service needs of physicians, health care workers, and other customers.
  • Conducts ongoing infection surveillance for the purpose of nosocomial infection case-finding. Maintains records, compiles, analyzes, displays and reports infection surveillance data.
  • Prepares and presents infection control educational material for general orientation and clinical departments as directed.
  • Assists in developing dust-control plans for renovation and construction.
  • Manages the development, review, and implementation of Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures.
  • May interact with Occupational/Employee health to institute and maintain control measures pertaining to health care workers and member infection control issues.
  • Participates in regional committees as determined by the Infection Control Manager. Performs on-site visits to all departments in the region to investigate problems, provide expert consultation and provide educational opportunities.
  • Participates in special projects as assigned.
  • Investigates infection control problems, infectious disease outbreaks and epidemics. Reports pertinent information to Colorado Department of Health and local public health departments.
  • Assists the Water Intrusion and Mold Management Response Team.
  • Participates in epidemiological investigations of significant cluster of infection above established standards as directed by the Infection Control Manager.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in an acute care hospital utilizing knowledge of medical and surgical procedures, treatments, and patient management required.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
  • Must be a graduate of a RN program that meets Colorado State Board of Nursing curriculum requirements.

License, Certification, Registration
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Colorado.
  • Certification in Infection Control required or must obtain within three (3) years.
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Taxonomy code required at time of hire.

Additional Requirements:
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Ability to comprehend and collect data and report statistics and scientific data required.
  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills required.
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs effectively required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of clinical infection prevention and practices preferred.


Remote work supported. Will require travel throughout the CO region.
