Job Description

Bridges seeks a Reading Intervention Teacher to support our literacy program in the Elementary School level classrooms (K-5). This is a 10-month position that reports to the Elementary Assistant Principal.


COVID-19 vaccine required for school staff. School follows DC Dept. of Health's safety guidelines and requirements for schools.


QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will:

  • Masters’ Degree in the education field (Reading Preferred).
  • Demonstrate excellent behavior management skills.
  • Possess the ability to listen, lead and follow
  • Be committed to their own learning.
  • Possess Orton-Gillingham Certification.
  • Have experience in data collection.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues, parents, families, and community members.
  • Have 2 years of successful experience in implementing reading intervention in a pullout setting.
  • Have knowledge and proficiency in teaching phonics, word study and grammar.
  • Have 5-7 years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Be committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Have a record of accomplishment being a team player and community minded.
  • Have excellent time-management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
  • Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Collaborating with classroom teachers and Literacy Coordinator on students’ readiness to exit reading intervention.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Develop and implement remediation plans based on student need.
  • Preparing and implementing reading intervention programs with fidelity using Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading and Leveled Literacy Instruction (LLI)
  • Attending and participating in school events outside of regular school hours.
  • Participating in parent/teacher conferences and Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) meetings.
  • Facilitating a collaborative relationship with teachers, parents, and administrators to provide regular updates on students’ reading progress.
  • Administering quarterly and ongoing assessments to determine students’ reading progress.
  • Maintain data on student progress.
  • Provide professional development to classroom teachers on the components of Reading Instruction.
  • Contributing productively to the school as a whole.
  • Engaging parents and families in their student's learning and acting as an ambassador for the school in the community.
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers and literacy coordinator on reading strategies and tools to support student learning.

SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary is based on educational level, certification(s), and years of experience. Employees will be contracted yearly. Contracts will be renewed according to evaluations and staff interest. Health benefits (medical & dental), disability insurance, and a retirement plan: 401-(k) or the continuation of the DCPS retirement plan.
