Raytheon Intelligence & Space (RI&S) has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Inspector position at our Chesapeake, VA location.


The roles and responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:

Conducts in-process and final inspections of electronic assemblies to determine product quality and acceptability of inspected items.

Inspection is required to verify compliance of manufactured product against the requirements of specifications, engineering drawings, and other required quality standards as applicable, such as:

J-STD-001 – Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies

IPC-A-610 – Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies

IPC/WHMA-620 – Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies


Product types include: circuit card assemblies, wiring harnesses and cable assemblies, electronic subassemblies, chassis/cabinet assemblies, and vendor purchased materials.

Packaging inspection, shipping documentation review, product verification test witnessing.

Requires the use of cleaning solvents and inspection of applied paints and adhesives.

Most of the work is to be performed in a sitting position. May occasionally perform duties in a standing, kneeling or squatting position.

U.S Citizenship required as the applicant must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Job requirements:

  • The use of inspection instruments (e.g., microscope, small tools, measuring devices etc)
  • Interpretation of blueprint / assembly drawings and manufacturing processes.
  • 6 years of related work experience
  • Basic computer skills
  • Successful completion of an industry-based curriculum for electronic product acceptance is preferred.
  • Knowledge of electronic assembly and cable fabrication practices
  • Ability to distinguish color and complete a basic vision screening.
  • List and handle a maximum weight of 50 pounds.
  • External certifications are acceptable if traceable to IPC Standards identified above.
  • Familiarity with basic principles of ISO/AS Quality Management Systems a plus.
  • Electronic component identification (through hole and surface mount) and application of soldering acceptability criteria.


Required Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.


Desired Education:

AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
