Job Overview:
The Quality Gate Specialist updates
quality gate inspection checklists and train quality gate inspectors. Collects
data from quality sensors and applies to quality gates as necessary. Verifies
effective problem solving and addresses top quality issues.
Responsibilities:
  • Attend quality sensor meetings, creating new inspections based on findings as necessary
  • Present top defects to management
  • Uphold quality standards in the production line and promote an environment of teamwork towards the goal of zero defects
  • Support production in identifying and solving defect root causes
  • Updates quality gate inspection list, including computer system administrative updates and training quality gate inspectors Contributes to the development of implementation strategies
  • Provide training to quality gate inspectors based on recent trends in vehicle quality and data usability
  • Resolve issues and/or conflicts as they arise in the quality gates, escalating to management as necessary
  • Interface with production leaders to ensure quality problems are being solved in a way that prevents further defects
  • Monitors data entered in the quality gates and provide feedback for improvement
  • Update team boards as necessary to create awareness of current issues
Qualifications
  • Strong ability to understand technical specifications
  • Ability to work well in teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Languages: Fluent in written/spoken English
  • 2+ years of experience in manufacturing (preferably automotive)
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong ability to train team members in performing product audits and entering data
  • People and persuasion skills
  • 1+ year of product auditing experience (preferably automotive)
  • Assertiveness in difficult situations, knowledge of current moderation and presentation techniques
  • Knowledge in the application of quality methods
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in manufacturing, engineering, or related field
  • Negotiating skills
  • Strong ability to learn new computer systems

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is a plant in Ladson, South Carolina that produces Sprinter vans
for the U.S. and Canadian market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and
Freightliner. The midsize Mercedes-Benz Metris vans are also reassembled at
this location.
Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC invested 500 million U.S. dollars
in the construction of a new Sprinter production plant in addition to an
expansion of the previous assembly operations. In September 2018, MBV
officially opened its new plant, located next to existing operations in the
North Charleston area. The MBV facility will provide up to 1,300 jobs by the
end of the decade and is expected to create at least 600 additional jobs in the
region through its suppliers.
More
than 130,000 Sprinters have been assembled in North Charleston and delivered to
destinations in the U.S. since 2006. The U.S. is now the second largest market
for Sprinter vans, after Germany.
