Job Description

Manages all Good Manufacturing, Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory Compliance programs within assigned bakery. This role provides governance of the quality and food safety management process and leads the implementation of the Company’s policies, standards, and GFSI standards at the facility. The role leads and manages the site quality and food safety team to assure the production of high quality, safe and legally compliant products that meet the desired product design and customer expectations.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage audits and inspections by third party inspectors. Communicate and collaborate with sales, corporate quality, and plant operations teams regarding quality program management, testing requirements, and inspection coordination.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for key performance indicators (KPIs) related to food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Perform finished product scoring, shelf-life studies, key metric, incidents, and Continuous Improvement reviews (Quality and Food safety GAP’S, period reviews, etc.) to ensure transparency at management level and coordinate site CAPA activities
  • Responsible for daily product review and record keeping on all shifts and results communicated to plant management team.
  • Responsible for outside service/vendor compliance of all Corporate Quality Policies, GMP’s, GFSI and FSMA standards.
  • Manage raw goods and finished good inspection through the analysis of Process Control Charts, COA's, system design, positive release program, or other means available and/or required.
  • Maintain overall responsibility & authority for hold and release programs, including disposition. Ensure disposition of “Hold” & “Release” product is authorized in accordance with Corporate Quality Policies and Procedures.
  • Manage physical, chemical, and biological findings with proper corrective actions in place. Responsible to maintain a foreign material log to include all foreign materials, specific location where the item was located, date and time; in addition to specific metal detector information and particles.
  • Maintain Quality Manual as outlined in GFSI standards. Conduct employee training as needed.
  • Promote teamwork across departments to ensure high quality output and customer satisfaction and retention, including communicating with senior management regarding quality and Food Safety issues and their plausible solutions.
  • Responsible for ensuring organizational support to achieve and maintain annual Food Safety certification. Responsible for verifying and validating the GFSI systems and all changes.
  • Maintain a monthly log of all documented GMP and internal audit GAP’s and corrective actions taken.
  • Manage preventive control and foreign material compliance. Build effective root cause analyzes and corrective actions.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for internal and GFSI Audits, compliance of all Corporate Quality Policies, and FSMA Standards of all plant departments by monitoring and spot-checking – logs, records, etc. Coordinate and verify GMP Food Safety Self Inspection Audits are completed each period and results distributed to all departments.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate product samples that are sent to approved outside testing facilities and the correct disposition of the sampled products using the outside test results.
  • Support the Distribution Center (on your facility area) for food safety, pest control and quality compliance.
  • Perform other duties deemed by management to be an integral part of the job, including but not limited to fulfillment of work schedules, adherence to attendance policies, and other applicable operating rules, policies, and procedures
  • Responsible for sending corporate the update of all new and current formulas for process of the nutritional panels.
  • Conduct weekly review of pest control records. Identify and communicate issues and/or deficiencies. Participate with PCO and plant personnel to resolve issues.
  • Responsible for tracking all product complaints, follow up with customers and reporting all findings to the plant manager and manufacturing manager. Review customer feedback and respond to complaints and questionnaires.
  • Conduct weekly review of Master Sanitation Schedule adherence. Identify and communicate issues and/or deficiencies. Participate with plant personnel on sanitation planning.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area.
  • Review SAP for bill of materials and routings on new products and formula changes.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures (EEO, Harassment, Safety, Food Safety, Quality etc.).
  • Participate in continuing education and training provided by the company.
  • Manage, conduct & attend relevant training and education on food safety, quality standards and procedures for company personnel. Ensure training and awareness programs for employees are up to date with quality systems and requirements.
  • Provide timely and accurate documentation to regulatory inspectors and agencies, maintain thorough records of Food Quality Reports, Tests, and Inspections. Communicate to the Plant Manager and Regional Quality Program Director whenever a regulatory inspector or outside customer inspector arrives at the plant. Report results of all inspections upon completion.
  • Responsible for maintaining environmental monitoring program. Review testing results in Neogen and provide reports to plant and Corporate Quality. Responsible for product shipping dates to correspond with microbiological results.
  • Responsible for ensuring ATP testing is complete by plant personnel.


Desired Experience

  • 5+ years of plant quality assurance / control experience in the food industry -including 2+ years in a supervisory role.
Minimum Requirements
  • Familiar with legal food safety requirements and with food process technology
  • Previous bakery/ food or petfood experience
  • Knowledge of quality management system. GFSI/ BRC and quality program GMP/ hygienic design.
  • An ability and desire to think independently, as well as to promote teamwork across departments and demonstrate strong organizational, planning, implementation, and execution skills.
  • Previous experience of quality assurance from a sizable organization

Desired Education

  • B.S. Food Science, Food Technology, Cereal Chemistry, Chemistry, or related discipline
