Job Description
Public Health Professional/Public Health Educator The Position GENERAL SUMMARY: This position requires the application of principles of public health and behavioral science to develop and implement programs and strategies, and to direct policy and system change to improve the health of individuals and communities with a focus on Child and Adolescent population health. This position will also coordinate the Benton Franklin Community of Hope Coalition. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works with community groups and directs educational efforts to influence public knowledge, attitudes, and behavior about child and adolescent health and related topics including ACES, Resilience and positive community and childhood experiences. Supports and implements policy, systems and environmental changes to make healthy choices practical and available to all children and youth; Educate and inform policymakers, decision-makers, and stakeholders about evidence-based policies, systems and environmental changes to support healthy children and youth. Organizes, facilitates and participates in community coalitions and task forces on various topics; Screens and evaluates materials and methods used to determine the effectiveness of programming; Supports assessment, statistical evaluation, report writing, budget preparation; Develops and maintains effective working relationships with community based organizations, public agencies, health care organizations, schools, etc.; Supports preparation of news releases and material for media; Develops social media and website messaging for their program areas; May be required to perform and document Medicaid Administrative Match activities per the Medicaid Administrative Match Training Manual for LHJs. Performs other duties as requested. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of health education and public health theory, health principles/teachings and medical terminology. Ability to develop and present materials effectively to a variety of groups from a variety of social and economic backgrounds. Knowledge of communications media. The Requirements & Selection Process MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Community Health, Health Promotion, Health Education, Public Health, or a closely related field, prefer 3 years of experience in the planning, implementation and evaluation of health education programs OR a Master's degree with a preference of 1 year of experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: CHES certification preferred. Washington State RN license, if applicable . Performance of job duties requires driving on a regular basis, a valid Washington State driver's license, the use of the incumbent's personal motor vehicle when a District fleet vehicle is not available for use, and proof of appropriate auto insurance.
