Town of Hingham Job Posting Title: Public Health Nurse Department: Health Status: Part-Time, 23.5 hrs, benefited, non-union Grade: 7 Salary Range: $33.02 per hour ($34.01 effective 7/1/23) Location: Town Hall


Duties: Working under the general direction of the Executive Health Officer, the position provides professional public health nursing functions to the public. Work includes developing, implementing and conducting a variety of programs and clinics based on policies and guidelines established by the Board of Health, serving as a resources and referral source for the public, providing information and education to the public and assessing the needs of persons at risk. Work consists of the practical application of a variety of concepts, practices, and specialized techniques relating to public health nursing. Assignments typically involve the evaluation and interpretation of factors, conditions or unusual circumstances; inspecting, testing or evaluating compliance with established standards or criteria; gathering, analyzing and evaluating facts or data using specialized fact finding techniques; and/or determining the methods to accomplish the work.


Requirements: Completion of four-year college degree in Nursing. Between one (1) year and three (3) years’ experience as a public health nurse. MA licensed R.N. Community health experience or comparable training/experience in Infectious disease control or home healthcare preferred. The Town may consider equivalent education and experience in determining whether a candidate has met the requisite qualifications. Special Requirements: A candidate for this position must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Massachusetts. Must obtain MAVEN Certification within 1 month of hire and complete Foundations for Local Public Health Practice course within 1 year of hire. Knowledge,



Skills and Abilities: A candidate for this position should have knowledge, skills and abilities in the following: Knowledge of: Principles, methods, and techniques of public health issues and the laws and regulations governing them; Available resources for referral purposes.



Skills: Nursing techniques as they apply to the community; Organizing and conducting various types of public health related clinics, screenings and trainings; Public health grant writing. Ability to: Appraise and make recommendations on individual and group health needs and problems; Interact objectively and professionally with the public, state and local officials and co-workers.
