Job Description
Hours: 8:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week (some evening and weekend work may be required)


Hiring Range: $22.00 - $24.00/hour


Funding Period: through May 2024


CHA requires employees to be up to date on all vaccines, including flu and COVID vaccines, and provides vaccination for staff. Vaccines must be up to date, or you must be willing to update them upon hire.


The Educator Specialist will provide education to congregate living settings related to COVID-19 and other communicable disease mitigation strategies. This initiative covers an 11-county region and strives to provide on-site infection prevention and control training and consultation to all types of LTCF's including behavioral and mental health settings.


Primary Responsibilities


  • Perform ICAR Evaluation and provide a site visit summary with identified gaps and recommendations
  • Schedule in-person and virtual visits, calls and education sessions with assigned counties
  • Serves as the first point of contact to navigate behavioral health facilities through outbreaks
  • Provide targeted infection control training education and materials based on identified resource between NC DHHS, local health departments, Adult Care and Behavioral Health Homes
  • Evaluate facilities utilizing NC SPICE Infection Control in Long-Term Care Facilities Training and ongoing monthly educational opportunities


Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent with at least 3 years of experience in the medical or public health field; or bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in health education, education, public health or similar with at least 2 years in the medical or public health field. Previous experience in mental or behavioral health and training others.


License: Valid NC driver's license


Skills, Abilities & Knowledge


  • Ability to travel to facilities within different counties to conduct visits
  • Must be extremely flexible, work independently, work as part of a team and possess good decision-making skills
  • Must be able to plan and work collaboratively with community partners
  • Possess ability to to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgement in appraising situations and making decisions
  • Knowledge of behavioral and mental health field and facilities
  • Ability to secure the cooperation of clients, to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships
