As a Psychiatrist with DOC you will:
  • Get clinical exposure to a variety of psychiatric diagnoses and, with no managed care seeking to discharge from your care, have the chance to see the positive impact of your interventions on your patients.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state facility this class is accountable for the diagnosis and treatment of individuals needing psychiatric care.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Conducts individual and group psychotherapy;
  • Prescribes drugs and/or occupational, physical, psychological or industrial therapy;
  • Instructs unit and professional staff on individuals and general unit medical management;
  • Participates in diagnosis, care and treatment of individuals in an assigned service;
  • Reviews individuals’ records;
  • May review work of psychiatric residents;
  • Conducts intellectual and physical evaluations of individuals;
  • Meets with team to determine individual treatment plans;
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • May testify in court to provide evidence of intellectual status of individuals;
  • May perform physical examinations;
  • Meets with visitors and answers inquiries;
  • Makes daily rounds to examine individuals and modify treatment plans;
  • May manage medical and surgical treatments;
  • Investigates complaints and unusual occurrences and makes reports of findings;
  • Interviews newly admitted individuals to obtain their intellectual and physical history in order to determine appropriate treatment plans;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

  • Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain a license to practice medicine and surgery issued by the Connecticut Department of Public Health in accordance with the applicable Connecticut General Statutes. A temporary license may be granted for a period not to exceed one (1) year.
  • Incumbents in this class must have completed at least one (1) year of residency program experience in psychiatry approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. § 1320a-7b(f).
