Clinical Care (90%)

• Uses clinical data to inform diagnostic assessments (DSM-V) and treatment planning
• Urgent care and crisis intervention
• Psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessment, and pharmacological consultations
• Serves as a mental health consultant to other University partners and stakeholders, and a community referral resource for students
• Serves on an on call-after hours rotation with other CPS clinicians
• Collaborates with Advanced Practice Nurses
• Performs specialized evaluations for students of concern: these include administrative, readmission, exit, and post-hospital evaluations
• Effectively manages the daily clinical operations, and/or development of new clinical services in response to changing needs of the student body.

Administrative Management (10%)

• Participates in UHS, Campus Life, and University committees, as assigned by the Associate Director and Director.
• Involved in other initiatives, projects, and activities, as assigned by the Associate Director and Director.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrates curiosity and open mindset regarding those of different identities and cultures
• Cultural competence and clinical sophistication in delivering mental health care to a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body
• Completion of an accredited psychiatric residency program
• Evidence of significant experience working with severely troubled patients and/or on a psychiatric inpatient unit, or the functional equivalent
• Demonstrated skills in: Psychiatric diagnosis and current psychopharmacological treatments, including a mastery of DSM-V nomenclature and recent clinical research
• Respects the cultures and identities of others
• A strong understanding of the full range of developmental and mental health challenges affecting young adults;
• Ability to work closely and collaboratively with other mental health clinicians in providing team based care to patients and in conducting assessments and requested evaluations;
• Active New Jersey State Medical License
• Ability to assess the need for psychiatric hospitalization, handling psychiatric emergencies, and coordinating inpatient care both at UHS and with area hospitals.
• Clinical expertise in emergency management and crisis intervention
• Clinical expertise in evidence-based psychopharmacological practices
• Interpersonal skills and an ability to form a therapeutic alliance with college-age and graduate student populations
• Board certification in Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
• Collaborative liaison skills in order to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team at University Health Services, University administrators, faculty, and other community partners.
• Doctoral degree in medicine (M.D.) or osteopathy (D.O.) from an accredited college of medicine
• Ability to combine strong clinical psychiatry and collaborative practice skills within an integrated health care organization which offers a broad range of medical, mental health and health promotion services to students. Further, the successful candidate will possess

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Training in health equity and other diversity and inclusion topics
• Clinical sophistication in the evaluation and treatment of alcohol and other substance use disorders
• Additional training and experience in the psychological care of late adolescents and young adults with the following subspecialties: attention-deficit and learning problems, psychological trauma, or severe personality psychopathology
• Prior experience working in a university mental health service or a comparable healthcare system
• Training and experience in short-term or time-sensitive models of treatment.
• Advanced training in psychopharmacology as well as the interface between physical illness and mental illness
