TITLE: Proofreader/Copy Editor
REPORTS TO: Director of Marketing
FLSA CLASS: Salary Exempt
The job duties described below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of this position. All employees may be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time, as needed.
Description of the Position:
The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: proofreading, editing, revising and writing copy for McMenamins locations, events and print and digital materials generated through the Marketing Department, including ads, event cards, brochures, posters, table tents, promotional pieces and other collateral; writing and/or proofing weekly features and monthly e-blasts; editing printed materials generated through the department while adhering to McMenamins style in combination with AP style; writing and/or editing company updates, product labels and areas the Marketing Department is promoting; writing and/or editing event descriptions for the website; helping with writing content for designated social media posts; attending necessary meetings at various McMenamins locations and assisting supervisors with other projects as they arise.
This position requires mental agility and the ability to effectively multitask in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment. Must also have the ability to work well independently and as a member of a team. Each employee will be expected to perform their job in a safe manner and report any safety concerns to management. All McMenamins employees will also be expected to keep current on all company events, history and products. Other duties are to be completed as assigned by the manager on duty.
Requirements of the Job:
- Strong knowledge of AP Style guidelines; knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style helpful
- Education in journalism, English or a related field, and experience in writing and editing required
- Excellent organizational skills
- Top notch editing skills and extensive knowledge of grammar and syntax
- Computer skills: Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet
- Ability to write copy for social media
- 3+ years education or experience in marketing, public relations or new media
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Professional communication skills
- Some travel to other locations and events
- Strong understanding of best practices for communicating to a broad audience
- Creative and witty writing skills and ability to match McMenamins style
- Excellent attention to detail & time management
- Excellent people and customer service skills

- Extensive computer work including repetitive use of hands and fine hand manipulation while working on computer keyboard, writing and filing
