About this role

What you will be responsible for?
This role has accountability for delivery of the Water Treatment Project Phase 2 (WTP2), expected to have a total investment cost of $500M to $750M.

In this role you will

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:
Project Management
Full-time leadership of the WTP2 in Stage 2B, this includes:

  • Work with Supply Chain to develop and implement a procurement approach for the services needed to complete this project stage and the construction stage.
  • Ensuring adaptability and optimization of plant designs and longevity of components.
  • Coordinating permitting constraints and regulatory compliance.
  • Commissioning of two new acid water treatment plants as quickly as practicable.
  • Develop, adapt when needed, and implement the delivery strategy for this critical project that balances contending business objectives including:
  • Support the Yanacocha Closure Program director and team in developing effective strategic communications for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with site Permitting and Legal functions to de-risk and optimize the approval's strategy for new water treatment plants and components.
  • Develop and be responsible for the budget and detailed schedule, and utilize support from Regional Project Controls to record and report on progress, maintain trends, and process change notices.
  • Optimizing capex and opex.
  • Be the primary point of contact for the Site and Regional Investment Offices and Value Assurance for the project.
  • Crafting for safety and maintainability.
  • Providing opportunities for local and local-local resources.
  • Develop and be responsible for a robust independent technical review program and make regular reports on outcomes to Project Leader and Project Owner.
  • Ensure that all project documentation, including IRPs, Execution Plans, Business Readiness Plans, Gate Reports, etc., is developed and maintained in full conformance with Newmont’s Project Management Handbook, Investment Standard, and all related guidelines.
  • Improving automation and capability for remote operation.
  • Assemble and maintain a project team through a matrix approach; available resources include other Closure Program team members, Newmont Technical Services, Yanacocha site resources, functional resources assigned to Yanacocha, Americas Regional Projects, and consultants.

Full-time on-site leadership of WTP2 Stage 3 and Stage 4 Project Management, which in addition to the Essential Duties described above includes:

  • Ensure achievement of water quantity treatment rates, treated water quality criteria, RO recovery targets, and reagent use and sludge quality targets.
  • Develop and implement approach for performance guarantees working with Newmont Projects Supply Chain team.
  • Direct day to day coordination with EPC provider during early works and construction to ensure performance against scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Ensure business readiness planning and delivery is complete and effective.

Support to other Yanacocha Water Projects

  • Lend support and advice to other water and closure projects at Yanacocha, and contribute to strategic water and closure planning.

Here is what we would need to see from you!
Education:

  • PMP Certification strongly preferred.
  • Process, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree.

Experience:

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish, or eagerness and ability to learn with tutoring provided.
  • 15+ years of experience.
  • Validated experience operating projects with a total investment cost greater than $500M.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to travel domestically and internationally (10-30%).
  • Able to work between 3,000 m to 4,200 m above sea level.
  • Flexible hours to accommodate global meeting times.

Working conditions & location

Where you will be located

  • Stage 2B management – remote within the Americas or on site in Peru, with occasional to frequent travel to site.
  • Stage 3 and 4 – Residential in Cajamarca, Peru.

The salary range offered for this role is $157,420 to 194,460 . The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
