Job Description
The NYC Department of Buildings is responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties by enforcing the NYC Construction Codes, Energy Code and Zoning Resolution. We facilitate compliant development with integrity, efficiency, and professionalism. The Office of Human Resources & Employee Experience (HREX) is responsible for ensuring the Department complies with applicable labor and employment laws and City and Agency rules and policies. The unit provides guidance to managers and employees on a variety of topics including recruitment, employment, civil service, job and organizational design, labor relations, youth programs, benefits, wellness, performance evaluations, salary administration, timekeeping, and time and leave administration.

This position will manage programs that engage youth and industry stakeholders to build the Department’s capacity through internships, fellowships, and other initiatives. Programs will build an employment pipeline and high quality workforce for the Department and construction industry. The Program Coordinator will develop relationships with youth and industry organizations.

Under direction:
  • Develop, manage, monitor, and evaluate internships, fellowships, and other initiatives focused on youth and industry engagement.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders, schools, youth and industry organizations, and other external stakeholders to build an employment pipeline and high quality workforce; collaborate with the Community Engagement unit on outreach and partnerships.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

  • Computer proficiency.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with educational institutions and construction industry organizations in the New York City Metropolitan Area.
  • Excellent analytical thinking, organizational, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to develop, design and implement long range plans, goals, and objectives.
