American Humane is seeking an experienced Program Coordinator to support the day-to-day operations of the Human Conservation program. Position will be a hybrid of in-office and remote-telework based out of the Washington DC headquarters office. - Systematically track certified entities and their related activity with Humane Conservation Certification.
- Ensure the administrative needs of the program are met, including but not limited to coordinating travel, meetings, events and mailings; processing invoices and expense reimbursements; and managing projects, processes and procedures to ensure proper follow-up and timely completion of deliverables.
- Educate and assist entities in understanding the certification process, auditing and other relevant program requirements.
- As needed, take a lead role in planning and executing event logistics for Humane Conservation-related events, including the Kiessling Prize and launch events for new projects or initiatives.
- Make travel arrangements for domestic and international travel; proactively anticipating need and ensuring auditors or other stakeholders are properly prepared. These would include making flight reservations, car service or rentals and hotel accommodations; confirming and coordinating itineraries; and other logistical needs related to audits, meetings or activities.
- Develop and retain strong working relationships with certified entities, maintaining regular communication as appropriate.
- Other projects or duties as needed.
- Coordinate with Humane Conservation Certification Auditors responsible for the audits to ensure timely scheduling and follow-up throughout the process.
- Coordinate the various certification processes across the Humane Conservation Certification programs, including efficient audit scheduling across locations, audit data collection and reporting, corrective action plans, and any necessary follow-up.
- Prepare and communicate technical information to internal and external stakeholders in the manner most appropriate and easily understood by the respective audience.
- Work collaboratively with program leadership and accounting, taking the lead in handling the day-to-day logistics of tracking and managing program expenses.
- Prior work experience in a zoological or animal-related field preferred.
- Growth-oriented and dynamic; self-disciplined.
- Adept at building collaborative relationships and demonstrating diplomacy with diverse constituencies.
- Demonstrates commitment to animal welfare and the mission and work of American Humane.
- Able to work collaboratively and uphold the tenets of the programs.
- Fluency in a foreign language is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; active listening.
- Conducts oneself with high level of professionalism and responsiveness.
- Experience scheduling and booking complex travel strongly preferred.
- Highly detail-oriented, able to operate in environment with competing priorities and shift focus quickly and easily.
- High-energy, brings sense of curiosity to the job and willingness to take on new responsibilities as program grows.
- Bachelor’s degree required, BS animal science or related field a plus.
- Operates with a high level of discretion, maintaining confidentiality and using sound judgement.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; able to quickly learn and adapt to new software or database systems.

- Position will be a hybrid of in-office and remote-telework based out of the Washington DC headquarters office location with regular telework schedule based on organizational policy, need and manager discretion.
- Must be able to work from a computer screen and type on a keyboard for extended periods of time as well as talk, hear and exchange information over the telephone, computer and in person.
- Expected to maintain a regular work schedule with possibility for some evening or weekend work. Must be comfortable with occasional animals, in particular dogs, in the office or at work related events.
