Job Description
Summary You will serve as a Production Controller (Shipbuilding) in the VIRGINIA Class Project Office of the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion & Repair (SUPSHIP), Groton, CT, with duty at Quonset Point, Davisville, RI. Responsibilities You will initiate, coordinate and control all phases associated with the construction, alteration, and modernization of all submarines or projects assigned. You will review various ship and/or system specifications that serve as the framework for the planning of government support and control actions necessary for the administration of VIRGINIA Class submarine projects. You will, through reviews, identify potential problems in areas requiring special coordination efforts. You will coordinate communications relative to the identification of all deficiencies, track the progress of corrective actions, and coordinate with government stakeholders for actions deemed to be the responsibility of the government to correct. You will attend various conferences/meetings to monitor work progress. You will anticipate potential problems in time to allow corrective action and to protect the interests of the government and contractor to the work being performed. You will maintain daily contact with the shop managers in order to monitor progress of shipboard work and keep abreast of and coordinate resolution of daily problems that have a potential impact on schedules. You will visit the shop to observe progress of various installations and review problems with ship's force personnel. You will initiate action to correct or resolve items of emergent nature. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications TO QUALIFY FOR GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying a comprehensive and intensive practical knowledge of production methods and procedures for the construction, overhaul, or repair of nuclear submarines. TO QUALIFY FOR GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying knowledge and experience in the construction, overhaul, or repair of submarines to observe and analyze production operations to determine if schedules are being followed. Education TO QUALIFY FOR GS-11: In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field of study directly related to the position; OR Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field of study directly related to the position; OR A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
