Huntsman is seeking a Product Development Scientist supporting the Polyurethane - Thermoplastic Division located in Derry, New Hampshire. This position will report to the Team Leader Product R&D.


As The Product Development Scientist You Will


  • Support our manufacturing facility in Ringwood in process continuous improvement activities and scale up of new products.
  • Work with business teams and/or customers to identify and commercialize new products and technology.
  • Participate in and complete company-required training programs.
  • Follow instructions and perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Stay current with the state of the art in TPU chemistry, test methods and processing techniques through literature search, participation in technical conferences, trade shows or other industry related activities.
  • Utilize advanced chemical knowledge, data, modeling, and statistical tools to solve technical challenges and develop structure-performance relationships.
  • Assist other employees in accomplishment of Huntsman company goals.
  • Collaborate with TPU technical groups located in Europe and Asia on projects that are part of the global development strategy.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to internal (sales and marketing) and external customers when required.
  • Participate in Environmental, Health and Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.
  • Participate actively in site EHS activities and maintain and promote a safe working environment in both the laboratory and in the field.
  • Development of new products and formulations for thermoplastic polyurethanes applications with emphasis on film and sheet extrusion grades.


Required Qualifications


  • MS/PhD in Materials or Polymer Science with relevant industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical/Plastics Engineering, or Material Science discipline, with a minimum of 5 years of technical experience in the polymer/plastics industry is highly desirable.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Ability to conduct, plan, execute and communicate laboratory development plans and testing results.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills and team-work orientation to be displayed both internally and externally with customers.
  • Hands on experience in polymer synthesis, polymer characterization techniques such as thermal analysis, rheology and mechanical testing.
  • Experience and knowledge in polyurethane chemistry and formulation development.
  • Project management skills including the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Knowledge of experimental design and statistical data analysis.
  • Solid background in polymer science and polymer structure-property relationship.
  • Ability to travel as needed (Up to 20%).
  • Team player.
  • Prior experience in TPU is a plus.
