Job Description

The primary purpose of this Administrative Specialist position is to provide secretarial support for the Independent Rehabilitation Living Program (ILR) and Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Program. This person is supervised by the Area Rehabilitation Supervisor. This position is critical in providing services to consumers in each program in a timely and efficient manner. This position serves as a vital link for communication between the ILR and VR Program counselors, consumers, physicians, post-secondary institutions, employers, and vendors. The Administrative Specialist must be constantly aware of operational goals of the ILR and VR Program in order to assist the Division in coordinating the efforts of the Rehabilitation Counselors. This requires maintaining contact by phone, mail, and in person with medical providers, Social Workers for the Blind, vendors, contractual teachers and customers in order to convey information, material, and messages. The Administrative Specialist must use good judgment, discretion and good secretarial skills in order to assist the counselors in case of emergency. The Administrative Specialist in this position must also possess the knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services.
Job responsibilities include the following:

  • Ordering aids, appliances, AT, and other equipment
  • Corresponding with consumers, vendors, visitors, and other DSB staff (written and verbal) Making copies, filing and other duties as assigned
  • Data input/retrieval
  • Setting up case files
  • Creating authorizations; processing claims

  • Must possess excellent customer service skills to work with a diverse population and have good organizational and time management skills

Sedentary work:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience
