The North American Group, currently based in the Cork Town neighborhood of Detroit Michigan is looking for a highly effective and self-motivated Process Engineer to join our team. You will be part of a dynamically growing team that is results driven, cultivates consistent learning, and operates in the fast-paced industry of Additive Manufacturing.

As a member of the Forward AM team, you will own the technical responsibilities of Selective Laser Sintering, SLS powder materials and provide expert level support to customers and commercial team while defining work priorities to support aggressive commercial growth. You will work in all settings, digital or in-person as required to drive and create new opportunities.

As a Process Engineer you create chemistry by…


  • Prioritizing activities to drive profitability and industry acceptance with minimal guidance.

  • Maintaining SME level project guidance while managing a lab full of open powder bed machines of many brands, as well as supporting new machine/material combinations, sales process support such as benchmarking, validation print efforts, etc. all while working closely with the Technology manager and commercial Stakeholders to maximize profitability from lab efforts.

  • Helping new or existing customers with material parameterization, troubleshooting process issues, and build optimization efforts

  • Providing answers or seeking support from global teammates utilizing global tools and resources to overcome obstacles and clear hurdles for successful development efforts.

  • Supporting technical efforts, and commercial activities, as well as successfully engaging within the global team, communicating on Project activities, defending our needs, and advocating for support and resources for North American business and project efforts.

  • Your abilities to clearly share your work results/messages with customers, global team members, and for possible marketing efforts such as sales tools, trade shows, and webinars.


Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent


Your formula for success…


  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Material Science area of study or equivalent blend of knowledge and experience.

  • 3-5 years minimum experience working with powder bed fusion technology actively developing machine settings on non-standard materials.

  • Proven success in project structure/DOE development and goal-oriented planning.

  • Fluency in digital tools with strong skills in standard Office Software is required, and at minimum basic skills with CAD modeling/Computer aided engineering software.
