Air Products is currently recruiting for Process Control and Instrumentation Engineer to join our team in the Air Separation Unit (ASU) Product Line based in our corporate headquarters, Allentown, PA


The ASU Product Line Process Controls Engineering team provides engineering support and strategies for new product development as well as support for project execution of new Cryogenic Air Separation Plants. We are a global team who work closely with colleagues in our US, United Kingdom, India, and China engineering offices.


As an Air Separation Unit Productline Process Control and Instrumentation Engineer, you will:

  • Domestic and international travel to other Air Products facilities, customer locations and plant sites may be required
  • Develop process controls execution strategies in conjunction with overall project development team during the bid phase
  • Participate in Control System Design reviews
  • Responsible and accountable for process controls project scope of hours and cost estimates for valves, instrumentation, analytical equipment, DCS equipment, SIS equipment
  • Develop and review control system designs, architecture and product DCS code
  • Detailed engineering support will be required, which could include supporting an in-house design team or supporting an outside engineering design firm
  • Author, check or approve specifications of process control equipment including control valves, relief valves, flow measurement devices, process instrumentation, analytical systems, and DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems
  • Participation in P&ID development and Operability and Hazard Reviews
  • Identify and manage process controls technical risk items


As an ASU Productline Process Control and Instrumentation Engineer, you will have:

  • Able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the design and implementation of control and instrumentation systems for process plants
  • Instrumentation specification authoring in Smart-Plant Instrumentation toolset
  • Must be a strong team player with a willingness to accept responsibility
  • Must be able to demonstrate technical competence, leadership skills, communicate effectively
  • Have good problem-solving abilities, be ambitious, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills enabling you to work well within a multi-disciplinary design team located in multiple geographies and to liaise directly with suppliers and clients
  • Experience developing control applications and hardware specifications with Siemens PCS7
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering with at least 10 years of applicable work experience
