Job Description
Function

The purpose of the class is to provide probation supervision and guidance to probationers and pretrial defendants referred to the Criminal Justice Agency by the courts.

Minimum Requirements
  • Ability to use a computer for the purpose of case management.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice process and local judicial system; knowledge of the problems associated with offenders.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Corrections, Social Work, Sociology, Human Services, or related field of study.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • Microsoft experience preferred.
  • This position is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
  • Must possess or obtain VCIN certification within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working directly with at-risk individuals.

Additional Requirements
  • Performs duties under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor who provides guidance and direction through periodic discussions and consultations.
  • The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules
  • Frequent contact with courts, defense attorneys, and treatment facilities.
  • May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings, weekends and holiday hours.
