Description

Sponsored by Prince George's County Planning Board, the Collegiate Internship Program is designed to provide job training in planning and urban development to qualified college students who anticipate careers in these areas. Interns will be assigned to work with the Planning Department staff at The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) in Prince George's County. Internships will be available for the summer.
Interns will work full-time (40 hours per week) and will be compensated.
Positions will be filled at the undergraduate (Intern I, pay rate $17.61 per hour) or graduate (Intern II, pay rate $21.88 per hour) level.
Program Dates:
Summer internships will run May 30 through August 18, 2023.
Deadline:
Applications for summer 2023 internship positions will be accepted on a rolling basis until positions are filled.
Application Instructions:

  • Students must submit an M-NCPPC online application to be considered for employment.
  • Students must submit a college transcript; an unofficial transcript is acceptable.
  • Students must submit a personal statement indicating goals and aspirations that may be enhanced by participation in the program. Personal statements must be at least one (1) page long.

Areas of Opportunity:
The Prince George's County Planning Department has a wide variety of opportunities that will provide students with a realistic work experience. Selected students will have the opportunity to work with experienced individuals in their respective disciplines. The Prince George's County Planning Department will be seeking students pursuing degrees or disciplines in the following areas:

  • Communications/Public Relations
  • Urban Design/Studies
  • Economic/Community Development
  • Geography/Geographic Information Systems
  • Transportation Planning
  • Environmental Planning/Science
  • Regional and Community Planning
  • Civil Engineering
  • Historic Preservation
  • Landscape Architecture
  • Public Policy/Administration
  • Sociology

Minimum Qualifications

Student Eligibility:

  • Students must have at least a 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Students must have at least a junior class standing and be enrolled in a higher education program at the undergraduate or graduate level
Additional Criteria Used for Selection:
  • Familiarity and/or experience with computers
  • Leadership experience
  • Strong writing skills
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work well with minimal supervision
  • Work or volunteer experience that might be applicable
  • References from past supervisors and/or professors
  • Effective interpersonal skills
