Job Description

Description & Details: A Post Doctoral Research Fellow position is available in the area of materials science in the Department of Chemistry/Biochemistry at North Dakota State University. This position will fulfill grant requirements focused on the generation of new materials useful in the development of more efficient solar cells adaptable to a wide variety of uses.

Responsibilities: Synthesis, purification and characterization of semiconductor materials dispersed in polymeric or network solids; Maintain and update laboratory facilities; Assist with reports and manuscripts.

Work Schedule: 40 hrs.wk

Advertised Salary: Commensurate with experience

Minimum Qualifications: · Ph.D in Physical Sciences

  • Well organized and detail oriented
  • High level of skill in the comprehensive characterization of materials for semiconductors
  • At least 4 years’ experience in synthetic organometallic chemistry
  • Report writing for private and federal sponsors
  • Laboratory and training experience with high temperature synthesis equipment, hazardous gases, liquids, and solids,
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively alone or in teams.
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and oral).

Preferred Qualifications: · Skills in high temperature synthesis of inorganic materials. Characterization of said materials via powder x-ray diffraction of microcrystalline powders.

  • Experience interpreting NMR, IR and UV spectral data.
  • Experience in design and fabrication of thin films and their testing.
  • Skills in handling toxic and flammable materials.
  • Experience in experimental work on semiconducting and polymeric materials.
