Under the guidance of the Manager of Analytics, the CIN Population Health Analyst Sr. prepares cost and use rate and other analyses for department personnel. Assists in day-to-day operations of administering value-based contracts and contract information systems. Supports implementation of cost and use analytical tools, and performs required analytical and project management functions for the Clinically Integrated Network (CIN). Develops and maintains databases with managed care activities and operations, as well as tracks the status of requests and analytical projects as requested by CIN leadership. Participates in the ACO finance workgroup where they work with others to identify opportunities for improving results under value-based contracts and disseminate findings.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Develop cost and use rate analyses and reports using claims data obtained from third party payors in order to pursue maximizing financial opportunities under the value-based contracts.
  • Support development of annual CIN budget and monthly review of actual to budgeted expenses.
  • Identify discrepancies in data and manages resolution with documentation and follow-up of solutions. Analyze physician fee schedules and hospital reimbursement rates and calculate financial impact of contracts.
  • Provide requested information by the CIN Finance and Operations Committee.
  • Communicate and present population health data and statistical findings clearly and effectively to non-technical constituents using visualizations.
  • Develop network retention reports to share with hospital divisions to improve referrals and access.
  • Gather data from a variety of sources and aggregate into consolidated report for distribution of incentive dollars.
  • Work with external vendors related to the business intelligence and data aggregation software to ensure that the systems are up to date and working in accordance with the contracts.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program and safety standards, demonstrates knowledge of the current functionality of computer systems and promotes a harmonious working environment. Adheres to HIPAA regulations for privacy, transactions, security, and confidentiality.
  • Design and develop highly interactive, effective self-service reports and dashboards in BI applications, and present findings to all areas of the Hospital and the Clinically Integrated Network.
  • Compiles and computes data for routine business reports as necessary.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Generate cost and utilization profiles for CIN providers in partnership with other stakeholders.
  • Use cost, quality, and demographic data to identify disparities in care and opportunities for improvement in the network.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Design and maintain managed care claims databases and systems to streamline collection, analysis and dissemination of contract information.
  • Monitor and follow up on reporting provided by payors related to incentive arrangements. Able to identify key actions necessary to maximize opportunities and share findings with CIN management and board committees.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Advanced computing, spreadsheet, and data visualization skills, specifically SQL, Excel, Tableau/PowerBI, or equivalents.
  • Ability to write clear and concise technical memos, report sections, and project-related documentation.
  • Experience with a Clinically Integrated Network or ACO and value-based care preferred.
  • Organizational and work planning skills to manage independent projects.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in health care or 5 years of experience performing related tasks in another field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related degree. Master’s degree preferred (MBA, MSF, MHA)
  • Demonstrated expertise in statistical process control, hypothesis testing, and/or multivariate analysis methodologies applied to healthcare themes.
  • Ability to create, manage and interpret complex datasets, including data aggregation, analysis, and data mining.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with people from diverse levels of the organization.
  • Ability to verbally describe technical reporting and statistical issues and solutions to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks simultaneously. Above average analytical ability. Must have database experience. Attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and communicate effectively with others.
  • Self-directed in developing new knowledge and skills.
