Job Description

Vanderbilt University seeks a Plumber Journeyman to perform routine plumbing work and plumbing construction/installation work. This is a full-time position: 40 hours per week. Must be available to work 7:30AM to 4:00PM. Must be available to work additional hours as required including evening hours.

Plant Operations provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center.

Facilities annual budget exceeds $100 million in operating expenses and includes over 400 employees. Facilities manages major capital project expenditures totaling ~$125 million annually and facility renewal, replacement and large maintenance project expenditures totaling ~$20 million annually.

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

Maintain and repair domestic water lines

    Maintain and repair sanitary sewer system

      Check and repair all backflow devices

        Maintain and repair all steam domestic water heaters

          Maintain and repair all plumbing fixtures

            Maintain and repair all domestic recirculation pumps

              Maintain and repair domestic pressure regulating valves

                Maintain and repair storm sewer system

                  Assist on irrigation problems

                    Assist zone electrician, plumber, and carpenter in performance of their duties

                      Utilize work order system in all aspects, including parts ordering, printing work orders and parts look up

                        Set up and monitor personal work order query

                          Process daily work order time sheet

                            Operate vehicle/golf cart and perform operator level maintenance

                              Other duties related to classification

                                Supervisory Relationships :

                                This position does not have supervisory responsibility; this position reports administratively and functionally to Preventive Maintenance Manager.

                                Education and Certifications:

                                • Valid driver’s license
                                • High School Graduate or GED is required
                                • Journeyman Plumbers License is preferred

                                Experience and Skills :

                                • Strong communication skills
                                • High work ethic
                                • Able to stand, stoop, crawl, work on elevated surfaces and be in awkward positions for extended periods of time.
                                • Push, pull, lift and carry at least 70 pounds.
                                • 5 Years of experience or the equivalent
                                • Able to work in various weather conditions
