Some of what you'll be doing:

As the licensed and experienced Plumbing Journeyperson, you will help us maintain our commercial properties. You will provide quality maintenance repairs, ensuring our equipment/buildings are operating properly and efficiently.

  • You will represent the Port while performing repair, maintenance, and delivering excellent customer service to our internal and external customers throughout the Port.
  • You will visit customers throughout the Maritime division to service and repair equipment and respond to emergencies immediately and drive a Port vehicle that will contain Port tools.
  • You will service and repair the plumbing systems and equipment such as water heaters, lift station pumps, backflow assemblies, and plumbing fixtures installed in buildings managed by the Marine Maintenance team.

  • Desired – We hope you have a backflow testing license, a Seattle gas piping license, a Washington State boater’s card, and OSHA 10 certification.
  • Experienced – You have five (5) years of related Plumbing maintenance and repair experience in a commercial environment at a Journeyman level.
  • Customer Service Oriented – You understand and anticipate customer needs with the ability to deliver service with care and calmness under pressure during stressful/emergent situations.
  • Educated – You possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent. You must have a current PL01 Plumbing License.
  • Knowledgeable – You have a strong technical knowledge in a variety of commercial Plumbing systems and designs, and knowledge of local plumbing codes.
What else you need to know :
  • Overtime Eligible – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
  • Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.
  • Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
  • Work Environment – You will generally work outdoors and in commercial facilities.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Union Representation – This position is represented by United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters, HVAC/Refrigeration Union, Local 32.
  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
