Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.


This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This role will be based in Reston, VA, with periodic business travel to Poland offices and sites as required.


Position Summary

As the Plant Design Deputy Engineering Group Supervisor, you will report to the PD&P EGS, be responsible for supervising engineers/designers and helping to execute assignments concerned with specialized or unique engineering requirements in a global business unit. This position has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating these assignments. This involves exploration of the subject area, definition of scope, and may involve the development of novel concepts, approaches, and solutions. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in the development of the design.


The ideal candidate will have solid experience in plant layout and piping design, including design in the 3D model. In addition, the candidate must have excellent communication skills.


Responsibilities

  • Act as a mentor for subordinate Engineers and Designers.
  • Direct preparation and review of piping & valve specifications and material requisitions for all piping and pipe support commodities.
  • Monitor budgets for work activities.
  • Review and coordinate technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction.
  • Assist in constructability reviews.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews, coaching, and career development discussions as applicable.
  • Provide design over-sight role for plant design deliverables, such as layout design, piping design, 3D model output, and material requisitions.
  • Schedule and coordinate reviews for engineering deliverables for the Project.
  • Monitor all work for compliance to project standards, applicable codes, contract requirements, quality standards, discipline standards, and accepted engineering and construction practices.
  • Schedule and monitor work activities.
  • Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues.


Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.
  • Level 2: AA/AS degree or certification in an engineering curriculum or drafting/design with 11 years experience or in lieu of degree, a minimum of 15 years related experience and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Must be authorized to live and work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Level 1: AA/AS degree or certification in an engineering curriculum or drafting/design with 8 years experience or in lieu of degree, a minimum of 12 years related experience and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in a lead or supervisory role of a group of Plant Design layout and piping designers.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.1 and/or B31.3 codes.
  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software applications.
  • Knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions.
  • Prior experience working in a Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.
  • Experience in nuclear plant design (power plant or DOE nuclear facility).
  • Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
  • Understand the work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPS).
  • Necessary skills to present technical subjects with competence and confidence.
  • Experience in the layout of Nuclear facilities (power or DOE).

  • Experience in construction interface and resolving field problems.
