- Event and meeting coordination with city partners, chambers of commerce, business associations, and small business owners.
- Implementation of the ElevateHennepin.org technical assistance platform, including maintaining relationship with platform vendors, tracking performance, and managing program financials.
- Contract management, including drafting, negotiating and executing contracts; performing due diligence on vendors; tracking contract compliance; and overseeing payments.
- Other economic development initiatives, including programs that support place-based approaches to enhance business districts, and those that provide technical and financial assistance to entrepreneurs and expanding businesses.
- Hennepin County’s suite of economic recovery initiatives focused on supporting small business resilience and growth, vibrant business districts, and sustainable communities.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in any field and a minimum of two courses in research methods, analysis, statistics, project management, planning, or evaluation and 18 months or more of relevant planning, research, economic development, and/or project management experience.
- Access to reliable transportation to attend occasional meetings throughout Hennepin County.
- Master's degree or higher in business administration, public administration; public affairs/public policy, research methods, statistics; behavioral/social science; public health; computer science/MIS, management science; urban/city planning, or a field appropriate to the area of specialization.
- One of the following:
- Bachelor's degree in one of the fields listed below and one year or more of relevant planning, research, economic development, and/or project management experience.
- Experience:
- Planning and organizing meetings, setting agendas, taking effective notes, synthesizing information and action items, and tracking decisions and project progress.
- Administering contracts, managing vendors, tracking financials, tracking performance, and reporting on outcomes
- Researching complex issues, analyzing data, and developing summaries and recommendations.
- Working with agency partners, community and cultural organizations, and small businesses in project work.
- Knowledge of or interest in:
- Developing and implementing strategies to support and grow small businesses.
- Demonstrate a strong attention to detail to produce accurate and error-free work.
- Creating a level playing field so that all residents, including those in communities of color or low-income communities, have opportunities to grow their entrepreneurial skills.
- Analyze, synthesize and simplify complex economic development issues, data and programs.
- Ability to:
- Take on responsibilities at a variety of levels, including administrative tasks, project management, and strategic thinking.
- Manage multiple tasks simultaneously, work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing needs and priorities.
- Creating process documentation and workflows.
- Communicating with customers and project partners via newsletters, presentations, workshops, and social media.
- Advancing place-based strategies to create equitable, compact, vibrant communities.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with team members, municipal governments, community and cultural groups, and business organizations.
- Formulate work plans for the assigned area of responsibility; develop and follow through on timelines and work plans to meet deadlines.
- Supporting public sector strategies to attract private investment and stimulate redevelopment.
- Using research and data to inform development and operation of programs.
- Demonstrate a willingness to constantly learn new skills and improve work performance.
- Understand and interpret program materials and concepts, synthesize project information, and deliver presentations at stakeholder and partner meetings.
- Demonstrate effective writing, spreadsheet, and data management skills.
- Engaging with small business owners, including members of traditionally underrepresented populations.
