The shop located in Katy, TX has an opening for a Pipe Welder.

What You Will Do

Some core responsibilities for a Pipe Welder include:

  • Operate tools and equipment including: angle grinders, beveling machines, cut-off grinders, hammers, tape measure, levels and torches (oxygen/acetylene & plasma).
  • Read drawings and recognize basic symbols for the job application.
  • Weld pipe, skids, structural steel and related equipment according to specifications.
  • Exhibit knowledge of material identification, equipment utilization, welder equipment set-up and maintenance.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work safely and accurately.
  • Possess skilled knowledge of welding, and welding process required (GMAW, SMAW, GTAW and SAW).

We expect all shop employees to:
  • Display a positive attitude and can work in a team environment.
  • Participate in onsite safety meetings.
  • Recognize safety hazards and risks.
  • Be on time to the jobsite each day ready for work.
  • Be aware of changing conditions on an active jobsite.
  • Actively participate in a strong safety culture.
  • Follow OPD and client safety policies and procedures.

Some physical demands of being a Pipe Welder include:
  • Capable of working in outdoor weather and environmental conditions including extreme heat and humidity, extreme cold, and high elevations.
  • Use hands to handle, control, and feel objects and/or tools.
  • Lifting and carrying awkward objects up to 60 lbs.
  • Standing for extended periods of time up to 11 hours per day.
  • Moving the entire body. Considerable use of arms, legs, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, crawling, twisting, reaching, and bending on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to work on elevated platforms and maintain balance when stepping on narrow platforms such as beams and pipes. Must be able to perform these activities while wearing an approved full-body harness and lanyard.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Must be able to meet all physical demands of the job.
  • Must own the necessary tools to perform the welding and fabrication of structural steel.
  • Must be able to read, write & communicate in English
  • Must be a safety role model.
  • Must be able to pass code welding test: AWS D1.1 pipe and plate test for pipe welds (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW and SAW).
  • Must be able and willing to attend mandatory safety meetings.
  • Must maintain your equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety or the environment.
  • Must be able to work shifts up to 12 hours per day and 7 days per week
  • At least 3 years of pipe welding experience.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to produce welds that are visually acceptable per the construction code i.e. AWS D1.1.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • 5 years of experience as a pipe welder and fabricator.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience in a gas plant construction environment
  • Previous experience being a leader for safety.
