Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Physician Specialist for the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center in Chicago, Illinois. As a non-administrative Illinois licensed Physician, provides medical care and treatment to patients and employees of the facility. As a primary physician specializing in Internal Medicine, provides comprehensive medical treatment for assigned patients on an assigned shift. Verifies treatment of patients meets standards of care. Evaluates assigned cases at Intake; signs certificates for involuntary patient admissions and testifies in court. Makes daily rounds. Provides back-up coverage. Serves as an active member on medical committees.

Job Responsibilities

  • Attends and participates in all Department of Human Services (DHS) and Chicago-Read Mental Health Center mandatory training.
  • Serves as an active member on medical committees, program meetings and monthly medical staff meetings and case evaluation to provide expertise in the areas of treatment, development, etc.
  • Provides evaluation and treatment for injured employees.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
  • Makes daily rounds evaluating patient’s progress and treatment; checks reports and charts of patients.
  • As a non-administrative Illinois licensed Physician, provides medical care and treatment to patients and employees of the facility.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires an Illinois license to practice medicine and American Board Certification in the specialty of Internal Medicine.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of professional experience evaluating the quality of specialized medical care and treatment for patients with mental illness.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience coordinating medical services with other professional disciplines and supportive personnel.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience preparing comprehensive and specialized medical records and reports.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience identifying most appropriate positive treatment regime and carrying out that treatment in accordance with best practices.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in Internal Medicine conducting examinations.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
  • Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
  • Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires a Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certificate.

Work Hours: Various Shifts, See Below.

Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., OR 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., OR 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
